Dr. Gene Jacobs – Featuring “Trails of Southern Illinois”
Brief biography: Dr. Gene Jacobs worked in Mental Health and Community Mental Health from 1972 to 1982. He moved to Southern Illinois in 1975 to establish and implement an Emergency Psychiatric Program in this area.
In 1983 he accepted a position as a School Psychologist in a special education cooperative in the southern Illinois area. He became a Nationally Certified School Psychologist in 1989. Among his many accomplishments he was awarded PRACTITIONER OF THE YEAR REGION 6 by the Illinois School Psychologists Association in February, 2000. After his retirement as a School Psychologist in 2006 Dr. Gene began photographing the “Trails of Southern Illinois” in the Shawnee National Forrest. The current exhibit features this work along the many popular trails as well as along the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail. ……..
